Block 1: September 3, 10, 17 – $60*

In this 3 week block, students will learn the basics of performance as they play theatre games and creatively explore building a character from the ground up. Exploration, improvisation, characterization, and collaboration are just a few of the “fun”damentals we will cover in this entertaining and exciting three week foundation for Blocks 2 and 3. This class is perfect for beginners, and also a great refresher for intermediate acting students.

Block 2: October 1, 8, 15 – $60*

In this 3 week block, students will build on the basics learned in Block 1. Students will also learn a song and a dance to be included in the final production of Block 3. Exciting new theatre games and team building exercises will make this block a ton of fun! Students will be encouraged to play fiercely and create with abandon in a safe and nurturing environment where creativity is key!

Block 3: October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19 – $100

In this 5 week block, students will take all of the “fun”damentals learned in Blocks 1 and 2 and apply them to an actual production. Students will audition for, rehearse, and perform a short production to be shared with family and friends at the end of the last day of class. Each student will actively create a character while learning lines and polishing the production. Costumes, singing, dancing and acting will ensure that your student has the time of their life in this exciting conclusion of the Acting Building Blocks series!

About your instructor: Courtney Ransom’s second home has long been the theatre. After receiving her BA in Theatre Studies from Idaho State University and her MFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Idaho, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a life-long dream of “making it big” only to discover her true passion – teaching theatre to youth. While in California, Courtney spent three years teaching with Kids On Stage. Since moving back to Idaho 10 years ago, Courtney has taught summer camps and performing arts classes at the Nampa Civic Center, Treasure Valley Children’s Theater, Center Stage Boise, and The Idaho Shakespeare Festival. She has taught classes in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Comedy and Improvisation, Video Production, Creative Dramatics, Imagination Theatre, Advanced Acting Techniques, Theatre History, and Shakespeare. She has also directed several youth productions.

Courtney has extensive experience on the stage, screen, and in the classroom. A seasoned actress, she has performed at the Kennedy Center and on stages large and small throughout Idaho. She also has on-camera auditioning and performing experience. Courtney strives to create an atmosphere of fun and creativity in her classes and camps. She also builds an environment where students are expected to support and encourage each other. This goes hand in hand with her insistence for hard work and dedication. Courtney helps her students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as confidence and self-reliance, through theatre arts. Courtney loves to see students blossom from shy wallflowers into budding performers who are confident, creative, and curiously willing to jump in with both feet. She looks forward to helping your child reach their full potential!
