Art Education

Artists and members of the community can teach or take classes at The Gem. Classes range from figure drawing to printmaking to clay sculpture. One of the goals of The Gem is to help promote artists and help turn their skills and passions into income. The classroom space will also host career development workshops for artists seeking training on the business aspects of being an artist such as marketing or starting a website.

The Gem Center for the Arts strives to provide opportunities in the traditional arts. It also seeks to help creative minds incorporate their strengths into any career path.

The Gem will offer classes that both introduce and improve performing skills for artists. Programming highlights will focus on audience appreciation and will foster the arts as a worthy endeavor of their own. Set up as a black box theatre, dancers, theatre companies, and other performers can create a space that suits their performance and audience. In providing space for these mid-level groups the Gem fills a significant need in the Treasure Valley. The performing arts space is located on the basement floor and is approximately 1700 square feet.

The Gem consultants and staff are creating various curriculum for instructors working at the Gem in the area of performing arts. The curriculum will incorporate the National Standards for the Arts.

The gallery space is located on the first floor of The Gem Center and is currently 2500 square feet with plans to double in size in the near future. This space will feature movable exhibition walls for a variety of local, regional and national installations and exhibitions.

Our large first floor gallery space is available to rent for events other events such as weddings, receptions, conferences, and more.

The Gem Center for the Arts has a long-term plan to build a makerspace focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) for community members.
